Job Description

NEEDED: Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse

LOCATION: 2425 South 200 th Street, SeaTac, WA 98198

SCHEDULE: 960 hours every 120 days (on-going), 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have successfully graduated from a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Exceptions include Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements for VHA employment, OR Individuals granted an acceptable license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school.
  • Must also hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice as practical or vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Must have a current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must have 6 months of applicable experience.
  • Provide two (2) letters of reference.
  • Possess knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.

JOB DUTIES: LPV / LVN s hall be responsible for, but is not limited to:

  • Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff
  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure
  • Administer medications as prescribed i.e., by mouth, intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly
  • Assist with distribution of medications at pill line
  • Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy
  • Perform skin testing
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens
  • Record and document patient care activities on appropriate records such as health history
  • Record diagnostic testing, i.e., venipuncture for laboratory studies, visual acuity testing, EKGs (per instructions from mid-level practitioners or physicians).
  • Process lab work to include filing on a daily basis.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy
  • Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians
  • Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored and disposed of according to institutional and national policy
  • Assist the mid-level practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics
  • Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record
  • Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems, i.e., hypertension, diabetes, and asthma
  • Initiate emergency care as needed according to community standards
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures
  • Ability and skill to operate EKG and laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and must have the ability to screen for gross mood changes
  • Ability to provide basic first aid, prevention care, and guidance in treating a variety of common illnesses/injuries
  • Perform duties as required, but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/her educational preparation, training, experience, and nursing licensure laws
  • May be asked to perform administrative duties as needed based on the needs of the institution.
