Part-Time Circulation Clerk

The Dunlap Public Library District is seeking a courteous, reliable, service-driven professional to serve as a part-time Circulation Clerk. The Circulation Clerk ensures library patrons receive excellent customer service at a busy circulation desk by answering reference and technology questions in person and on the phone, checking out and discharging material. This position may involve day, evening or weekend shifts and has the opportunity for up to 20 hrs/week.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provides friendly, welcoming, and accurate service to all users

• Performs circulation duties for patrons, including checking out and discharging materials, collecting payment for bills, updating customer account information, issuing library cards, and placing holds on materials

• Opens and closes the library

• Cleans and shelves library items, and shelf reads for accurate material placement

• Assists patrons with library computers, copier, scanner, and fax machine

• Responds to routine reference and reader’s advisory questions

• Assists the Adult and Youth Services Librarians as needed

• Complies with all library and personnel policies and procedures

Job Required Skills, Education, and Qualifications:

• Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery

• Demonstrates proven computer literacy with adequate keyboarding skills

• Uses effective verbal, written, and discreet communication with management, co-workers, and the public

• Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and assist users simultaneously

• Ability to pay attention to details

• Ability to operate a cash drawer and make change

• Exhibits knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and other library-related catalogs

• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 20 pounds, and push up to 40 pounds on a wheeled cart, and access all library areas and materials

• Ability to go from sitting to standing frequently and easily

• High School Diploma / GED required; Library experience preferred

• Availability in the day, evening, and weekend hours

• Access to reliable transportation

Schedule and Benefits: The Circulation Clerk is part-time, $15/hour, with flexible hours morning, afternoon, and evening Monday-Saturday. The primary hours for this position would be Thursday and Friday mornings, with rotating Saturday shifts.
